Children's Services

Local Government organisations like Manly Council play a major role in the provision of Children's Services. Manly Council is committed to consultation with its community members and as such invites any comment that may help in determining the need, level and quality of services it provides to families and their children. Each service listed can be contacted for more detailed information.

The process of selecting a service that suits your individual family's need is sometimes difficult and requires some careful consideration. We hope this information will support you in making that decision a little easier.

Funding Services

Fees and Government subsidies are paid to Council to operate the services within a set of:

  • funding service level agreements
  • industry standards
  • statutory regulations.
As a result the majority of the services directly provided by Council, being community based, are not for profit. This may often mean, because of dwindling subsidise and increasing costs in service provision, Council may at times, contribute in kind or subsidise the cost of the operation of Children's Services. This often enables services to remain viable and affordable to all sectors of the community.

The Beginnings

Manly Council is a mature and community minded provider of Children's Services. Beginning in 1973 with a hard won Family Day Care scheme and one Pre-school at Kangaroo Street it now provides the full range of service types.

Altogether, eight service types with twelve programme areas caring for the needs of more than 1000 children and their families throughout the year.

It is important that we ensure our services support Council's vision by offering:

  • high quality
  • safe services for it's children
  • support for families in attaining a rewarding, fulfilling and satisfying lifestyle.
