Club Friday is a recreational and leisure program for intellectually disabled people aged over 18 years, who reside in the Manly, Warringah and Pittwater local government areas.
The aim of the program is to assist people with intellectual disabilities to participate in community life and enhance their social skills and promote opportunities for learning and development.
The program is funded to provide 47 regular Friday night outings for 5 hours for 20 people per outing to enjoy a range of activities, as well as one weekend recreation camp per year.
The program receives Disability Services funding from the Department of Ageing Disability and Home Care (DADHC).
Activities
The activities include regular Friday night outings to a range of venues to enjoy dinner and dancing, barbecues, bowling and other games.
The annual events include a harbour cruise, weekend camp and Christmas Ball.
Clients arrive at the venue and are transported to their organised pick up/ destination point at the end of the evening. The program is provided between 6pm and 11pm.
Staffing
The Community Development Officers at Manly Council facilitate the Club Friday program. Experienced casual staff work on a Friday night and their responsibilities include client transport, supporting and encouraging clients to participate in a range of different activities, providing assistance to clients with specific needs, maintaining program documentation and reports.
