Conditions of Employment

Staff at Manly Council are generally employed under the conditions of the Local Government ( State) Award 2004.

Council also has Senior Staff positions.

Working Hours

Council policy is to provide a scheme of flexible working hours aimed at encouraging staff to work more efficiently without reducing the number of hours worked. Participation in the scheme is on the understanding that everyone co-operates to ensure levels of service and efficiency are maintained at a high standard.

Generally, Indoor staff work a 35 hour week, within a two week flextime cycle and Outdoor staff a 38 hour week with a rostered day off every two weeks. There are exceptions to this, which will be outlined in the advertisement.

The Council operates on a 'Core time' and 'Bandwidth' working hours template.

Core Time: Staff must work during the core time 9.00am to 4 pm, Monday to Friday ( Excluding lunch break).

Bandwidth Time: Work may be carried out during the hours 7.00 am and 7 pm. Time worked outside the 'Core Time' period is accumulated towards a 'Flex' day.

The process is dependent on the levels of work demands and Divisional requirements.

Council operates with adequate staffing levels with overtime kept to a minimum. Overtime will only be paid with prior authority.
