Events Volunteers
Throughout the year Manly Council organises a range of events that aim to bring the community together while showcasing our marvellous beaches and harbour. These events rely heavily on the support of volunteers and enable you to participate in nationally recognised events. Event volunteering is a great way to participate with no ongoing commitment, it allows behind the scene expereinces at large scale community events, and enables you the opportunity to meet some great people!
Volunteers participate in a variety of activities including site marshalling, stage management, waste management, fundraising, promotions, hospitality, guest relations and events management. Regular events include Jazz Festival, Food and Wine Festival, Carols, Sustainability Fair, Ocean Care Day and Fair Trade Markets.
To register for the events database, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, all events volunteers will be sent a flyer and registration form for upcoming events, this will give you the opportunity to be one of the first volunteers to register and to be kept up to date, registering for the evnts database is no obligation to participate, just an easy way to stay informed.
Childrens Services
We are looking for volunteers with experience in working with children to join our team. Manly Council has an extensive child care program and various opportunities for volunteers to participate. All volunteers involved in children services are required to provide character references and to complete a working with children check. Volunteers will be involved in a variety of duties and will always be working under the supervision of a qualified Council Child Carer. Each week the carers and children involved in our Family Day Care program attend a play group that provides opportunity for children to interact with other kids in the area. The weekly play group is attended by approx 50 children all under 5 years of age and requires an energetic volunteer to facilitate play activities and group interaction. This role would suit someone with experience in working with younger children, and looking for a rewarding volunteer role.
The play group meets each Thursday in Seaforth and a volunteer is required from 8.30am-12.30pm.
Out of School Hours (OOSH) Volunteer
OOSH provides supervised care for children attending local schools aged between 5-12 years. Volunteers are required to assist in providing the highest quality of care in an environment for OOSH, so that children have fun, learn and be creative while feeling safe in a secure environment.
Volunteers are required to assist in Before School Care 7am-9am with opportunities available Monday to Friday during school term. This role provides a challenging and rewarding opportunity, located in the Manly CBD.
Computer Tutor
Manly Library is looking for extra volunteers to participate in our computer tutoring program. Volunteers are required for a 3 hour weekly commitment to provide one-on-one lessons to members of our community who would like to learn about computers for the first time. Tuition involves basic computing which can include.png)
· Using a computer for the first time, basics of operating a computer including using a mouse, keyboard etc.
· Introduction to the internet, using search engines etc
· Setting up a email account and learning how to send, receive & add attachments etc
· Basics of Microsoft office
If you are experienced with computers, patient and enjoy helping others, you will gain great satisfaction from this role. This role will also bring about all the benefits that volunteering can offer, such as meeting new people, networking, actively participating in your local community and sharing your skills / enthusiasm, our tutors often develop a relationship with their students who attend week after week. No experience is required, this is a great opportunity to gain training skills, while have a direct impact on helping others. Volunteers are required both during the week and of a weekend and after hours are also available (in conjunction with Library opening times).
Justice of the Peace
Manly Library has a successful Justice of the Peace program proudly maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers, aimed to meet the demand for JP requests from our community.
A volunteer Justice of the Peace is required to be available on a weekly or fortnightly basis for 2 hour shifts. The program is aimed to meet the increasing demands for a JP and to ensure the community can access a JP at a convenient time. This is a great opportunity to be involved in the Manly Library while providing a valuable service to the community. Being a volunteer JP at the library will enable you undertake your honorary role as a JP in a structured, supported and well resourced environment.
Please note the key responsibilities of the volunteer JP are those which are outlined within the Justice of the Peace Handbook, to be eligible for this role you do need to be a registered JP, for inforamtion or support about becoming a JP please see LawlinkNSW.class=""> The Justice of the Peace Handbook provides important information including guidelines regarding the appointment and functions of a Justice of the Peace in NSW, which have been approved by the Attorney General.

anly Bushcare Program
Bushcare is a fantastic program to get your hands dirty and to learn more about our beautiful Australian bush. Opportunities are available both on the weekend and during the week, with only a 3 hour commitment per month giving you the option of casual volunteer work.
Local volunteers are proudly maintaining 10 Bushcare sites in Manly, creating habitat protecting our native flora & fauna and improving our waterways. Joining your local Bushcare group is a fantastic way of helping the environment and learning about bush regeneration as you go. Activities include
encouraging natural bushland regeneration by removing weeds
native plant and weed species identification
recreating bushland by planting native species
erosion control and mulching
recreating habitat
No experience is necessary professional bush regenerators will provide full on-site training. This is a great way to get your hands dirty and to get out in the sunshine. Bushcare groups meet regularly on each Wednesday (9.30am-12pm) or once a month on either Saturday or Sunday (9am-12noon). Manly Meals on Wheels
Monday - Friday
9am-11am or 11am-1pm
Only 2 hour shifts (Mon-Fri), volunteer once a week, once a fortnight or once a month, it all helps!
This vital service delivers up too 180 meals per day, volunteers are required for both drivers and helpers. You don't need a drivers licence to participate, just community spirit and a nice smile! The Meals on Wheels service has a huge impact on our community enabling either elderly or less mobile residents to stay in their homes for longer, reducing respite and nursing home costs while also assisting the family. This is a great opportunity to meet some of our special clients. Drivers are reimbursed $5 each run to cover petrol costs. The MEC has been established for over 15 years and proudly showcases an extensive collection of environmental resources and research. The centre is used by schools, university students, teachers, local residents and community groups. The centre requires volunteers to assist in organising events, educational programs, environmental projects and awareness campaigns. The centre hosts a variety of volunteers, with diverse experience opportunities are available in local field work, administration, marketing, projects, research and events. The commitment required depends on the position - this is a fantastic opportunity for people looking for practical experience in the environmental industry.
Streamwatch
Ever wondered why it is unsafe for swimming after rain? Come along to Streamwatch and find out why..gif)
Streamwatch is a dynamic environmental action network which is part of the Sydney Water corporation, aiming to educate and empower communities to work together for healthy catchments. Volunteers are required on a monthly basis to assist our Parks & Bushland team to test water at four specific sites to evaluate aquatic health and related management issues, recording data trends.
Testing days are the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 10am-2pm, with transport provided from Manly.
Volunteers are involved in the entire process of testing samples for - dissolved oxygen, turbidity, temperature, pH, faecal coliform, electrical conductivity, phosphates and nitrates. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience within this field and to meet like minded people, no experience necessary, very limited numbers call now to register your interest.
