Family Day Care

Family Day Care is childcare for children aged 6 weeks - 12 years in the homes of registered Caregivers where the care is monitored by staff of the Co-ordination unit.

Childcare

Family Day Care provides a safe, secure and stimulating environment, with care being provided in small groups.

Family Day Care provides the opportunity for you and your children to develop a close relationship with your caregiver.

This service is funded by the Federal Government, regulated by the State Government and sponsored by Manly Council.

The service is also accredited by the National Childcare Accreditation Council as a high quality service.

Caregivers

Caregivers are selected and monitored by a team of professional staff employed by Council.

Caregiver applicants must complete:

  • first aid training
  • a working with children check
  • a home assessment.

Council staff support Caregivers by providing:
  • playgroups
  • equipment
  • toy library
  • training.

Council staff also monitor the quality of care by paying regular visits to Caregivers homes.

Caregivers may care for up to seven children of which five can be pre-school age.

Caregivers and their homes are approved under State Government regulatory standards which include caring skills, safety, first aid qualifications and hygiene.

Caregivers are required to integrate a developmentally appropriate programme in their "own" home environment.

Support

THE CO-ORDINATION UNIT supports caregivers by providing:

  • regular home visits
  • playgroups
  • toy library
  • equipment
  • in-service training
  • auxiliary help
  • alternate care.

THE CO-ORDINATION UNIT supports parents by:

  • arranging compatible placements
  • administering Child Care Benefit
  • monitoring their child's development and care arrangements
  • referring parents to other services when required
  • arranging group or individual discussions on caring/parenting skills
  • ensuring families with special needs are given particular attention.

Fees & Conditions

Fees are charged according to the days and hours of care used (a minimum fee applies).

A small administration levy is also charged.

Parents are required to pay their caregiver directly, on the first day of care each week.

Family Day Care is approved for Child Care Benefit and Child Care Tax Rebate. Parents who are eligible can pay reduced fees or claim a lump sum.

How to Apply For Childcare

Contact the Co-ordination Unit for an application form and current information on 02 9977 6611.

Applications cannot be accepted for children who are not yet born.

When a vacancy arises, children are placed according to the Federal Governments Priority of Access guidelines:-

  • Priority 1: Children at Risk
  • Priority 2: Children of parents who are both working or studying
  • Priority 3: Children of parents requiring respite care.
