2012 EXPRESS YOURSELF: HSC Visual Arts students from Sydney's Northern Beaches
Exhibition dates: 16 March - 22 April 2012
Express Yourself is a vibrant exhibition that showcased the talent and creativity of the 2011 crop of HSC Visual Arts students from Sydney’s Northern Beaches. The diversity of media - from painting to printmaking, installation to photo media - and the high technical and artistic calibre of the works in Express Yourself reflect the effervescent creativity being fostered in Sydney’s Northern Beaches region. The exhibition featured over 30 students’ artworks from sixteen secondary schools.
Youth Art Awards
In conjunction with Express Yourself, two awards are granted annually to students featured in the exhibition. Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society presents a $2,000 award and the Theo Batten Youth Art Award of $5,000 is awarded to a student continuing tertiary study in the arts.

BEACHCOMBER: Jennifer Marshall - Works on Paper and Paintings
(1981 - 2011)

A survey exhibition of works by prominent Australian printmaker Jennifer Marshall, who explores the sea as her theme. Marshall works across diverse media including woodcuts, linocuts, etchings, drawing, watercolour, gouache and painting. Curated by Akky van Ogtrop.

ELEMENTS: John Reid
Exhibition dates: 3 February - 11 March 2012
Local artist John Reid's new body of work continues to look at the notion of paint as a language and the painted canvas as a live and reactive surface. Fuelled by years of study as a biochemist, Reid's focus is on the forces of nature and the honesty of the natural world.

THE NARRATIVE KNOT: Stories in Ceramics
Exhibition dates: 2 December 2011 - 22 January 2012
The Australian Ceramics Association’s Biennial Exhibition 2011 Curated by Gerry Wedd The idea of ‘the narrative knot’ implies interlocking or interweaving stories of, and about, making ceramics. Artists will explore the idea of objects with stories to tell, whether it be writing and drawing of stories on the ceramic surface or the effects of flame and glaze on a fired surface telling the story of making, firing and the maker.

PROmotion
Exhibition dates: 2 December 2011 - 22 January 2012
This exhibition will mark the 50th anniversary of The Journal of Australian Ceramics with both newly created ceramic work from selected practitioners and work from the collection of MAG&M. In the months leading up to this exhibition, artists will be blogging about their making process, their work and The Journal as a source of research material. The collaborative blog will continue alongside the works encouraging visitors to be part of the process. Curated by Dee Taylor-Graham.

FRED MAGRO: New Work
Exhibition dates: 11 - 27 November 2011
Fred Magro presents a new body of work inspired by the sea and landscapes of the northern beaches. His dimensional constructions using oil paints and collage with plastic film and mixed media are experiments in composition and colour saturation. The storytelling in the pieces is an enactment of past techniques, marks imperfectly recovered from past habitats.

OFF SHORE: Artists of Scotland Island and Pittwater's Western Foreshore

The Pittwater region of Sydney continues to attract and inspire artists, drawn by its natural beauty, relative isolation and creative community. This exhibition of the work of twenty-four artists reflects the strengths of their collective consciousness as well as the diversity of media and techniques, and ideas and themes in their individual works. PERSONAL SPACE: Contemporary Chinese and Australian Prints

An international exhibition of prints by fifty Australian and Chinese artists working in the tradition of the fine art print The theme ‘personal space’ offers a variety of interpretations on the concept of 'space' in ways that are literal, symbolic, external and internal. Supported by the Gordon Darling Foundation and curated by Michael Kempson, Senior Lecturer and Director of Cicada Press, at the College of Fine Arts at the University of NSW.
