Artists invited to create new works in response to theme  ‘land’.

Manly Art Gallery & Museum and the MAG&M Society are inviting expressions of interest in the seventh biannual exhibition of new works by members of the Society and by artists from across the Northern Beaches arts community.

The exhibition is open to artists working in all media, including digital media, painting, drawing, printmaking, textiles, sculpture, glass and ceramics.

“We anticipate a dynamic exhibition of works across a diverse range of media,” said Katherine Roberts, Senior Curator, Manly Art Gallery & Museum.

This year, artists are invited to create new works in response to a theme - ‘land’.

“The theme will touch on landscape, headland, inland, wasteland, landfill, landmine, landfall, landing, homeland, island, landform... Indeed, wherever inspiration takes the artist.”

“Artists are encouraged to explore their own interests in this exhibition concept; land as an idea, a metaphor, a noun, a verb, a place, a possibility, a presence, a contested space and as a grand cultural presence within this region and beyond.”

“Through art we can explore old meanings and create new ones using various forms of imagination to delve deeper into the meaning of land to us, “said Ms Roberts.

“The exhibition supports and connects the Northern Beaches’ contemporary artists with the Manly Art Gallery & Museum, providing a valuable opportunity to showcase their work in one of Sydney’s most venerable regional art galleries - and to challenge their art practice through unique responses.”

All entrants must be current financial members of the Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society (MAG&M Society) or live in Sydney’s Northern Beaches region.

Artists are required to send in digital images (300 dpi and no larger than 2mb each) of up to two works, together with the Expression of Interest Form, artist statement and payment, by Monday 1 May 2017.

All works selected for exhibition must have been produced after 19 May 2017 and respond creatively to the chosen theme of ‘land’.

The cost per artist is $20 for financial MAG&M Society members or $30 for non-members.

If you are not already a member of Manly Art Gallery & Museum Society, or your membership is not current, pop into the Gallery or call 9976 1419 to join.
