Wet Weather Line

Manly Council has a Wet Weather Line with up to date information about whether or not the sporting grounds are open or closed for competition or training. The Wet Weather Line is updated on a regular basis according to weather conditions ie may be updated daily if rainy conditions are persistent, or less frequently if there are extended periods of dry conditions. This is a recorded message and the message is current. Please assist us to better manage the areas by keeping off fields whilst they are closed.

If you are unsure about whether or not your team or club is training or playing, please contact your coach or sporting association directly.

Working with sporting groups

Council is continually working with sporting groups to develop and improve the playing surfaces through better turf management and management of wear and tear on the surface. This is critical given the small amount of fields in Manly and the high usage along with water restrictions currently in force.

Field allocations are done by the Manly Warringah Sporting Union in conjunction with Manly Council. For questions regarding allocations, please contact the sporting union or your sporting association.

For information about hiring these venues please call Council's Community Facilities Co-ordinator on (02) 9976 1500.

There is a two week break at the end of both the summer season (March to early April) and winter season (August) to allow council to repair and renovate the fields, preparing them for the following season. Works include covering/uncovering cricket pitches, installing goal posts, aeration of fields and top dressing.

Wherever possible Manly Council uses bore water to irrigate the sports fields, reducing the impact on our precious water resources. Council continues to further investigate irrigation sources other than town water.

The sporting fields around Manly are maintained and managed by contract, the contractors maintaining the areas are committed to improving the surfaces and dealing with the user needs.

For feedback on issues related to sports fields please lodge a service request via council's home page, by clicking here, or in writing.
