People with a Disability

wheelchair.jpgManly Council is committed to improving access and services for people with disabilities.

This is vital given an estimated one in five people living in the Manly local government area live with some level of disability, and this number is set to increase with the ageing of the population.

The Manly Access Committee provides advice and makes recommendations to Council on local access issues, with the aim of improving access for people with disabilities to buildings, public places and services, and promoting awareness of disability issues.

With input from the Access Committee, Council has established a Fragrant Garden for the Visually Impaired at Ivanhoe Park and produced a Missed Business Guide, which outlines many ways businesses can improve accessibility to increase their customer reach.

Council also provides some direct services to people with disabilities such as Meals on Wheels and the Club Friday program for adults with an intellectual disability.

There are also other local services that assist with in-home support for people with disabilities of all ages. These can be found in the Northern Beaches Home & Community Care Services brochure.

The Northern Beaches & Forest Seniors and Care Guide may also be helpful in providing information about these services.
