Meet Your Street

Neighbourhood renewal programMany people would like to connect with their neighbours but don’t know how to go about it.

Even if you have a lot of friends or networks at work, the connections with people in your street are an important influence on your well-being.

Meet Your Street is an initiative of Northern Beaches Council's Neighbourhood Renewal Program Committee launched in April 2005.

This program aims to improve the quality of life of people living in Manly through developing closer relationships amongst neighbours. Benefits of participating in a Meet Your Street event:

  • Opportunity to get to know your neighbours
  • Creates a sense of community - 'Neighbourliness'
  • Meet others with similar interests
  • Children can play safely in the street
  • Explore common issues eg. babysitting
  • Exposure to and awareness of local Precinct issues
  • Opportunity to promote local environmental activities.

What is involved?

Any individual or group of neighbours can initiate the process by submitting an application form to Northern Beaches Council. This application will be provided to Northern Beaches Council’s Traffic Committee for approval. Please note parties that involve road closures on a bus route may not be approved.

Once approved, the resident organiser of the event will be required to attend an informal Meet Your Street Induction to sign up as a volunteer and be covered by Council's Public Liability Insurance.

Northern Beaches Council will provide advice on planning the event, professional traffic controllers to close the road safely and amenities such as additional waste bins. The volunteer organiser will be required to notify the residents of the street about the road closure.

How to apply:

Applications will be approved on a first in best dressed basis. We recommend submitting your application as early as possible. Please contact Event Coordinator 9976 1749 for 2017 applications. Please complete following form: pdf format New Application Form Meet Your Street 2017 (99.73 KB).
