Current Volunteering Opportunities
Throughout the year Manly Council organises a range of events that aim to bring the community together while showcasing our marvellous beaches and harbour.
These events rely heavily on the support of volunteers and enable you to participate in nationally recognised events. Event volunteering is a great way to participate with no ongoing commitment, it allows behind the scene experiences at large scale community events, and enables you the opportunity to meet some great people!
Volunteers participate in a variety of activities including site marshalling, stage management, waste management, fundraising, promotions, hospitality, guest relations and events management. Regular events include Jazz Festival, Food and Wine Festival, Carols and Ocean Care Day.
To register for the events database, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, all events volunteers will be sent a flyer and registration form for upcoming events, this will give you the opportunity to be one of the first volunteers to register and to be kept up to date, registering for the events database is no obligation to participate, just an easy way to stay informed.
Manly Bushcare Program
Bushcare is a fantastic program to get your hands dirty and to learn more about our beautiful Australian bush. Opportunities are available on the weekend with only a 3 hour commitment.
Joining your local bushcare group is a fantastic way of meeting like-minded people in your community, learning about local native plants and animals, the noxious and environmental weeds that threaten them and weed control techniques that can also be used in the garden at home.No experience is necessary. Activities include weed removal, planting native species, mulching and erosion control. This is a great way to get your hands dirty and to get out in the sunshine.
Northern Beaches Council South has two bushcare groups that meet once a month on a rotating roster to restore bushland at North Harbour Reserve, Tania Park, Sandy Bay, Bligh Park and Witches Glen on Burnt Bridge Creek.
To register as a Bushcare volunteer please contact and for further information on scheduled visits, meeting locations and times please contact the Volunteer Coordinator (02) 9976 1556 or email email@example.com

Manly Environment Centre
Some (limited) weekend event opportunities are available. To view the Manly Environment Centre website please visit www.mec.org.au
The MEC has been established for over 15 years and proudly showcases an extensive collection of environmental resources and research. The centre is used by schools, university students, teachers, local residents and community groups. The centre requires volunteers to assist in organising events, educational programs, environmental projects and awareness campaigns. The centre hosts a variety of volunteers, with diverse experience opportunities are available in local field work, administration, marketing, projects, research and events. The commitment required depends on the position - this is a fantastic opportunity for people looking for practical experience in the environmental industry.
Ever wondered why it is unsafe for swimming after rain? Come along to Streamwatch and find out why.
Streamwatch is a dynamic environmental action network which is part of the Sydney Water corporation, aiming to educate and empower communities to work together for healthy catchments. Volunteers are required on a monthly basis to assist our Parks & Bushland team to test water at four specific sites to evaluate aquatic health and related management issues, recording data trends.
Testing days are the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 10am-2pm, with transport provided from Manly.
Volunteers are involved in the entire process of testing samples for - dissolved oxygen, turbidity, temperature, pH, faecal coliform, electrical conductivity, phosphates and nitrates. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience within this field and to meet like minded people, no experience necessary, very limited numbers call now to register your interest.
For more information check out the Streamwatch website or Manly Council Streamwatch
