Youth Council
Giving Young People A Say
The Manly Youth Council (MYC) was established in 1968, possibly the first of its kind in NSW. Designed to form a representative group of interested people 14 to 21 years of age, it provides an effective forum for youth in the Manly area and acts as a coordinating body for youth services.
What do we do
- Organise one-off projects such as festivals, community art projects, training camps and issue specific activities.
- Lobby for resources, opportunities and funds for young people.
- Attend conferences and seminars on issues for young people.
- Develop policies and recommendations for local government.
- Provide and manage professional youth services through government grants.
Objectives
- Foster a better understanding between young people and local government
- Create an active interest amongst young people in the Manly area in local affairs, especially where this involves young people searching for ways and means to improve community life and amenity.
- Create and foster a sense of community and to advance the needs of young people in the Manly area.
- Encourage debate and discussion on matters affecting young people to help them form opinions.
- Be a coordinating body who shall call upon and involve other people/organisations to plan and implement community activities.
- Carry out its activities in accordance with Manly Council's youth policy and the conditions of any funding body providing a grant.
- Assist Manly Council in policy formulation on youth affairs.
- Be an auspice body for the administration and management of funds and resources generated or granted to it in satisfaction of the above objectives.

Manly Youth Council receives funding and assistance from Manly Council to facilitate the administration and co-ordination of its services. It also receives project/service funding from the NSW Government. Other sources include charges levied on participants, fund raising activities and donations.
