Neighbourhood Safer Places on the NSW RFS Website

Since 2010, the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) has been managing the Neighbourhood Safer Places (NSP) programme across New South Wales.

The NSP concept evolved out of the 2009 Victorian Bush Fires Royal Commission.Neighbourhood Safer Places

The primary purpose of a NSP is the protection of human life.

Their function is to provide a place of last resort for members of the community to shelter during a bush fire.

It is an essential part of the NSP programme that accurate and up-to-date information about the status and location of local NSPs be provided to the community.

The NSW RFS recognises that Local Government websites are an important resource of safety information for communities and provide a link to the relevant NSP information on the NSW RFS’ website.

The NSW RFS updates the NSP information on the website regularly and is therefore able to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information concerning NSPs within each Local Government Area (LGA).

Although the NSW RFS will continue to provide formal correspondence of any changes to NSPs within a LGA, providing a link to the NSW RFS website helps ensure that any information Council provides remains up-to-date and consistent.

The NSW RFS has recently updated their public website and the link to all information regarding NSPs on the website is provided at this link.

Local Emergency Management Committee

Manly Council is a member of a Local Emergency Management Committee, together with Pittwater and Warringah Councils and the various combat agencies.  Together we plan for the prevention and preparation for, response to and recovery from, local emergencies. The Committee meets four times a year to review the Local DISPLAN (Disaster Plan) and conduct emergency exercises.
