Work Experience

Work experience is a two way street.

For the participant it gives valuable insight and experience into what it is like to work for a large Sydney Council. For the Council, it's a chance to participate in a community program. It is therefore a policy of Manly Council to participate, facilitate and assist government labour market and community-based work experience programs, where possible.

Work experience participants may come from:-

  • Agencies involved in labour market programs.
  • Placements usually directly involve the relevant Government Department or agencies acting either directly or indirectly for that department. Participants would normally receive a direct subsidy for participating in such a program.
  • Schools, universities, TAFE's and private organisations which are not regulated by government labour market programs. This would normally involve short term placements with participants experiencing their chosen vocation.

Working conditions

Council will not use work experience participants as a substitute for paid employment, nor will Council pay any wages to the participants during their work experience with the Council.
