Q. When do I need a tree permit?

For trees on your property:

  • You require a tree permit to remove a tree that is over 5 metres in height
  • You require a tree permit to prune more than 10% of the existing canopy of tree over 5 metres in height

There are a number of species exempt from the Manly Local Environment Plan 2013 (5.9).

Penalties apply for breaches of the Manly Local Environment Plan 2013 (5.9). 

It is illegal to remove or prune any trees on public land, parks, bushland reserves or foreshore area.

Q. What work can I do on my trees without needing a permit from council?

For trees on your property:

  • You do not require to a permit to remove or prune trees less than 5 metres in height
  • You do not require permit to prune less than 10% of the entire canopy of a tree
  • You do not require a permit to remove or prune exempt species

We do ask you to take a photo prior to works just as evidence to support your actions in case of complaints

Q. How do I apply for a tree permit?

Before applying for a tree permit, please read Tree DA Fact Sheet.

To apply for a tree permit to remove a tree or undertake additional pruning, please complete a Tree DA Form and submit to Council.

A non refundable fee, as per Council's Fees and Charges, applies for a tree permit application. Payment can be made by cheque (this may be posted along with your application), money order, eftpos or cash over the counter at:-

  • 1 Belgrave St Manly 8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday to Friday.
