Tree Development Application - Exempt Species

The following species are exempt from the Manly Local Environment Plan 2013 (5.9) and you do not require a permit to remove or prune these trees on your property.

  • African Olive (African olea)
  • All Citrus (Citrus sp.)
  • Camphor laurel (under 10m in height) (Cinnamomum camphora)
  • Cocos palms (Arecastrum romanzoffianum)
  • Coral tree (Erythrina x sykesii)
  • Crepe myrtle (Lagerstroemia)
  • Evergreen Alders (Alnus acuminate)
  • False Acacia (Robinia psuedoacacia)
  • Rubber tree (Ficus elastic)
  • Honey locust (Gleditsia triacanthos)
  • Large and Small Leafed Privet
  • Leightons Green (Cupressocyparis leylandii)
  • Liquidambar (under 10m in height) (Liquidambar styraciflua)
  • Loquat (Eriobotrya sp.)
  • Mulberry tree (Morus sp.)
  • Oleander (Nerium oleander)
  • Paw paw (Carica papaya)
  • Pittosporum (up to 8m) (Pittosporum sp.)
  • Poplars (Populus sp.)
  • Prunus (Prunus sp.)
  • Tree of Heaven (Alianthus altissima)
  • Umbrella tree (Schefflera sp.)
  • All vegetation on the Manly Council noxious weeds list
  • Dead trees where technical evidence can be provided to show they are dead

We do ask you to take a photo prior to works just as evidence to support your actions in case of complaints.

It is illegal to remove or prune any trees on public land, parks, bushland reserve or foreshore areas.
