MANLY INDEPENDENT ASSESSMENT PANEL

Council has created an independent assessment panel with the delegation to make final and independent determinations on development applications that are referred to it.  A  copy of the MIAP Charter and referral criteria is available below.

The membership of MIAP consists of four members, two drawn from a pool of experts in the respective fields of environmental and planning, a rotating community member, and a permanent chair.

Mr Paul Stein, QC, AM,  has been appointed the permanent chair of the MIAP. Mr Stein is a respected jurist, who is a former judge of the District Court of NSW Land and NSW Environment Court and the NSW Court of Appeal. Until recently he was an acting judge of the NSW Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, and a judge of the Court of Appeal of Fiji. He is also a former NSW Deputy Ombudsman and President of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board and Chair of the Australian Consumers Association. Mr Stein is currently the Chairperson of the NSW Environment Protection Authority and Chair of the Board of Governors of the NSW Law and Justice Foundation.

The new MIAP is expected to meet 10 times a year (recessing in January and July) and meetings will be held in business hours on a weekday. The forward meeting schedule of MIAP will be published by Council at the end of each month.
