What is Sea Change for Sustainable Tourism?

Sea Change for Sustainable Tourism is an innovative education program and accreditation scheme that has been developed specifically to improve the environmental, social and economic performance of the tourism business sector in Manly.

The program is free to local businesses and involves undertaking a complete business sustainability assessment and development and implementation of a fully operational environmental management plan (EMP).

Businesses who participate in the program are eligible for endorsement under the programs 5-star accreditation scheme - each star represents completion of one stage of the program.

Sea Change for Sustainable Tourism has been modelled on two highly successful existing environmental education programs: the NSW Camping and Caravan Industry Association’s (CCIA) Gumnut Awards and Manly Council’s SEA Change for stormwater program.

The program is an initiative of Manly Council in partnership with the University of Western Sydney (UWS) and the Manly Chamber of Commerce. Initial development and implementation of the program has been financially assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Environmental Trust.
